Methods Based in Scientific Research & Industry Best Practice

As you know it is vital that health needs are addressed as part of any comprehensive behaviour modification plan. Therefore I really value your input and expertise.

As part of my standards of practice, in line with CCAB, APBC and FABC, I require veterinary referral and a full medical history for all behaviour cases.

Who are you referring to?

Jess Browne BSc(Hons) FdSc MSc

  • 15 years experience training Guide Dogs, their owners, and training Guide Dog Trainers.

  • MSc (with distinction) Clinical Animal Behaviour, University of Edinburgh

  • ABTC - ATI and PACT Full Member

  • FdSc in Canine Assistance Studies, University of Chester

  • BSc(Hons) Physiology & Sports Science,  University of Glasgow

I am currently working towards full CAB and CCAB accreditation. This means my knowledge and understanding of canine behaviour has already been accredited. I am now required to build a practical case portfolio to be assessed.

It may require me to video some of my consultations for assessment. It also means I may seek mentorship on more complex cases. Full client consent will be obtained in both instances.

Membership of FABC and APBC gives me access to a network of excellent practitioners, both vet and non-vet behaviourists, ensuring our clients get the best possible service.

Note from APBC: Provisional members have demonstrated that they have the appropriate level of knowledge and understanding for the professional role of Clinical Animal Behaviourist (CAB). They are now gaining the practical experience necessary to be assessed as a CAB and therefore become a Full member of the APBC. The APBC supports its Provisional members undertaking behaviour consultations

The Process

Once a behavioural issue is identified, either by you the dog’s vet, or if the client has come to me first, vet referral will always be required.

As the referring vet, you remain fully responsible for any medical treatment.

Once the behaviour consultation is completed, you will receive:

  • A summary report of your patient’s Behaviour Modification Plan.

  • The full report for your reference.

  • Regular updates on progress being made.

I may also contact you to seek further medical guidance on the case.

You will be able to contact me for discussion regarding the case. I very much welcome your input and look forward to working with you to improve the situation for our dog / owner team.

You can refer a patient to me by completing the form below or feel free to contact me directly with any general behaviour questions.

“I thought her follow up communication was excellent, checking in on our progress after the sessions.”
